Name of Country : The People’s Republic of Bangladesh
Type of Government : The President is the constitutional head of the state who appoints the Prime Minister, other Ministers and Judges. The country has a Parliamentary form of Government headed by the Prime Minister.
Parliament : The Parliament consists of 330 members. The country is divided into 6 divisions, 64 districts, 460 Sub-districts and 72000 villages.

Adult Literacy rate  44 percent (15+ years)
Language : 95 percent Bengali and 5 percent other dialects and English is widely understood and spoken
Religion : Muslim (88.3%), Hindu (10.5%), Buddhist (0.6%), Christian (0.3%) & Animists and believers in tribal faiths(0.3%)
Food : Rice, vegetables, pulses , fish and meat.
Principal Industries : Jute, tea, textiles, garments, knitwear, paper, newsprint, urea fertilizer, leather and leather goods, sugar, cement, fish processing, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, engineering etc.
Traditional Exports : Raw jute, jute manufactures, tea, and leather.
Non-traditional Exports : Ready-made garments, knitwear, frozen shrimps, other fish products, jute carpet, shoes and other leather goods, newsprint, paper, naptha, furnace oil, urea, fruits and vegetables, cut flower, handicrafts etc.
Principal Imports Wheat, oil seeds, crude petroleum, petroleum products, fertilizer, cement, staple fibers, yarn, fabrics, iron & steel, capital goods, automobiles etc.
Principal crops : Rice, wheat , jute, tea, tobacco, sugarcane, banana and mango.

Human resources : 50 million civilian labour force : skilled, semiskilled and unskilled. Abundance of low cost, easily trainable and adaptable workforce.
History : Recorded history : 4th century B.C. with evidence of flourishing civilization consisting of Cities, Palaces. Temples, Forts, Seats of Learning and Monasteries; 1200-1757 AD: enjoying period of prosperity under Muslim Rule; 1757-1947: British Colonial Rule; 1947-1971: Pakistan Period; 1971: emergence of the Sovereign State of Bangladesh.
